Baščaršija – the historical heart of Sarajevo

This part of the city has preserved its authenticity and the atmosphere of the old oriental bazaar.

What to visit:

  • Sebilj

    A wooden fountain that has become a symbol of the city. Located in a lively square, it is often a meeting place for locals and tourists alike. A large number of pigeons live there!

  • Kazandziluk Street

    One of the oldest streets of Baščaršija, where craftsmen have been making copper objects for centuries. Here you can hear the sound of hammers, see the art of engraving and buy interesting souvenirs – from coffee mugs to jewelry.

  • Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque

    The main mosque of Sarajevo, built in the 16th century. This is an architectural masterpiece and an important spiritual center. Next to the mosque is the Gazi Husrev-bey Museum, where rare books, documents and artifacts are kept.

The town hall is a symbol of Sarajevo

Built in 1896, this is one of the most recognizable architectural buildings in the city.

  • Exterior

    Located along the Miljacka River, the City Hall stands out with its magnificent facades, decorative arches and rich ornaments.

  • Interior

    Restored stained glass windows, marble stairs, and a domed ceiling make the interior ambience particularly impressive.

Next to the Town Hall is the Inat House, a symbol of stubbornness and love for tradition. This house was moved brick by brick to the other bank of the Miljacka in 1895 due to the construction of the Town Hall. Today, it is a restaurant serving Bosnian cuisine.

Latin bridge – the bridge that changed history

This Ottoman bridge became world famous because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on June 28, 1914 – the event that started the First World War.

Next to the bridge is the Sarajevo Assassination Museum, which displays historical photographs, documents, and artifacts from that time.

Ferhadija Street – a blend of cultures and history

Ferhadija is a pedestrian zone that symbolizes the historical diversity of Sarajevo and continues the old part of the city.

What to visit:

  • "Meeting of Cultures"

    Two worlds meet here: Eastern and Western architectural traditions. This place is a living reminder of the centuries-old coexistence of cultures that shaped Sarajevo.

  • Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

    The largest Catholic church in Bosnia and Herzegovina, built at the end of the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. Its facade is decorated with stained glass windows and tall towers, and the interior exudes silence and peace. In front of the cathedral there is a monument to Pope John Paul II.

  • Markale City Market

    A place where Sarajians buy fresh food. The market was built in 1895 and retains the original Austro-Hungarian architecture. Here you can find local cheeses, honey, meat delicacies and fresh fruit.

  • Eternal fire

    Monument dedicated to the victims of the Second World War. Opened in 1946, this flame burns continuously to this day, symbolizing remembrance and gratitude.

Trebević Mountain – a natural paradise near Sarajevo

Trebević is one of the most visited places in Sarajevo, thanks to its proximity to the city center.

What to visit:

  • Cable car

    It allows for a quick and comfortable climb to the top, providing incredible panoramic views of Sarajevo.

  • Lookout

    A place on top where you can see the whole city, perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature.

  • Bobsleigh track

    The legacy of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Today, it is an attraction for history and street art lovers, as it is covered in colorful graffiti.

Sarajevo Brewery Museum

Founded in 1864, the Sarajevo Brewery is one of the oldest companies in the city.

  • Museum

    The story of the history of brewing in Sarajevo through exhibits of old equipment and archival photographs.

  • Beer house

    A place where you can try the famous Sarajevo beer and traditional Bosnian dishes.

  • Franciscan monastery

    It is located near the brewery and houses valuable historical books and manuscripts.

Museum of the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympic Games

The museum brings back memories of one of the most important sporting events in the history of the city and the country. The exhibition features original sports equipment, photographs, medals and documentaries that reconstruct the spirit of the Olympics.

National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Founded in 1888, this is one of the most important cultural institutes in the country.

What to visit:

    Exhibitions include archaeological finds, medieval tombstones, and ethnographic collections.

  • Botanical Garden

    A green oasis in the heart of the city with rare plants.

  • Sarajevo Haggadah

    A precious illuminated Jewish manuscript from the 14th century, one of the world's most important historical books.

Yellow Tabija - the best view of Sarajevo

Built in the 18th century as part of the defense system, today it is a popular viewpoint with a wonderful view of the Old Town. During Ramadan, a cannon is fired here every evening, marking the end of fasting.

Tunnel of salvation – a reminder of the courage of Sarajevo

Built in 1993 during the siege of Sarajevo, this tunnel was the only passage connecting the city with the free territories.

Sarajevo was under siege for almost four years, without food, water and medicine. In those difficult conditions, local residents dug a tunnel under the airport. About 800 meters long, the wounded and basic necessities were transported through it.

Today, a part of the tunnel has been preserved and turned into a museum, where you can see the original wooden structures and tools used during construction, and learn more about life under siege.
